wonkydog Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 Hi folks, I have done a bit of searching but can't find any info on how easy it is to change a horn button. I have a galaxy with an original airbagged steering wheel, the right hand button is trashed and I have an opportunity to get a new one.Can anyone shed some light on how to do it? Thanks. Quote
Buncers Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 That's strange, I posted some stuff on this and saw some other posts but I can't find them anymore. Try a few other search strings or contact the administrator Wierd Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 Disconnect the battery, stick the kettle on and make a cup of tea :D that should give the airbag system enough time to discharge! extend the steering column, feel around the back of the steering wheel, you should find two holes? up in these are the airbag fixings, torx screws, cant remember the size though :P undo these, carefully lift the airbag away from the steering wheel, you should see the flat braided cable to the airbag? unplug it from the air bag, stash the air bag some where safe! away from people! soft side up! you can now see the horn buttons and cables, unplug remove and replace as needed, now replace the airbag, not forgetting to plug it in  and make sure you dont trap the cable as you replace it, replace the screws, now go around to the front of the car and make sure NO ONE is in the car! and reconnect the battery! if the air bag hasnt gone off :P alls ok :P switch on the ignition and try the horn button and annoy the neighbours all you want testing it :P Quote
Masked Marauder Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 Casn I add to the above DO NOT be tempted to test the new horn button by connecting the battery and turning on the ignition with the airbag off. You will turn the airbag light on and will need it reset if you do. Quote
HJT Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 Make sure you have your radio code before you disconnect the battery! Howard Quote
